🍷 An authentic Primitivo from Apulia
Carlomagno is named after one of the most important and influential Roman emperors in history: Charlemagne. Known as “the father of Europe,” he is associated with the Carolingian Renaissance, a major period of renewal in religion, politics, and the arts whose legacy deeply shaped Western Europe.
In his image, Carlomagno is a wine that celebrates a rich terroir and expertise deeply rooted in its native land.
🌿 Terroir & grape variety
100% Primitivo
Origin: San Donaci, Salento, Apulia
Harvest: last week of August
Organic wine
Primitivo is one of Apulia’s signature grape varieties, renowned for producing generous, fruity, full-bodied red wines.
Carlomagno’s grapes come from San Donaci, in the heart of Salento. The region’s warm, sunny microclimate provides ideal conditions for producing deep, rich, complex wines.
The estate’s philosophy is based on a nature-conscious approach: intervening only when necessary so that each grape can fully express the character of its terroir.
🍇 Winemaking
The grapes are harvested in the early hours of the morning, then placed in 10 kg crates to preserve their quality and freshness.
After destemming, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 22 to 24°C for 8 to 10 days, with daily pump-overs to extract the grape’s aromas, colour, and structure harmoniously.
Malolactic fermentation then begins naturally, immediately after alcoholic fermentation.
👃 Tasting notes
In the glass, Carlomagno reveals a beautiful, bright ruby-red colour with violet highlights.
The nose is expressive and elegant, marked by notes of cherry blossom, cherry, and delicate spicy touches.
On the palate, the wine is balanced and generous, with a lovely expression of tart cherry, pleasant structure, and a lingering finish.
